Behavior Plan

PAX Good Behavior Game

PAX is an evidence-based practice that we will use during instruction time to encourage engagement, reduce disruptions, and help children focus on the task at hand.  PAX promotes self-regulation and increases Peace, Productivity, Health, and Happiness. Here are some of the new behavior strategies our students are learning to become PAX leaders:

  • PAX Quiet: When students hear the teacher use her harmonica, they stop what they are doing, stop talking, raise hands in PAX (peace sign and finger on lips) and look at the teacher.
  • PAX Voices: Students learn to use different voice levels depending on the situation.  For example, they use a “zero inch” voice in the hallway.
  • PAX Hands: Students brainstorm appropriate ways to use their hands and learn that PAX Hands never hurt.
  • PAX Stix: Teachers pick sticks with students’ names to make sure that everyone participates in learning.

  • Beat the Timer: The teacher sets a timer and the students try to beat it. For example, the teacher may set a timer when it is time to clean up from inside recess.
  • Granny’s Wacky Prizes: At times, when students or groups are showing good behavior the teacher will pick a prize card from “Granny’s Wacky Prize Bag”.  The cards include quick, fun activities such as a one-minute dance party or walking across the room backwards.
  • Tootle Notes: Teachers and students write notes to thank others for bringing Peace, Productivity, Health, and Happiness to our school.
  • OK/Not OK: Students have cards on their desks that say “OK Go PAX” and “Not OK No Spleems”.  (Spleems are behaviors that we need to see less of.)  Teachers will quietly point to the card to give students instant feedback on their behavior without interrupting instruction.

*If you have any questions about PAX, please let me know.  Since behavior calendars are not part of PAX, we are not using them this year. However, if there are any major behavior issues, I will call or send a note home.  Thanks!
