Letter to Parents

January 30, 2014

Dear Panther Parent or Guardian,

This has been an extremely rough winter and has forced New Lexington City School District and many other districts to close beyond the five "allowable" calamity days. As you may know, we are beyond our limit. The high school and middle school have missed 13 days and both elementary schools have missed 14 days. It is the end of January and forecast for February is full of snow! Therefore, it is imperative to consider different options and modify our make up plan for calamity days.

At a special board meeting held on January 28, 2014, I recommended that the Board pass resolutions to amend the district calendar and implement Blizzard Bags as an option to make up calamity days. Both resolutions passed and below you will find brief descriptions.

Students will now be in session for the days listed below.

Blizzard Bag assignments

Last week, the state announced they would allow districts an exception to the law and added Blizzard Bags as an option to offset future calamity days. Therefore, we will be using this option for the next three calamity days. Guidelines for the Blizzard Bags are on the reverse of this letter.

Thank you for your support and patience as we continue to deal with Mother Nature.

Go Panthers!
