Recently, Sara Elizabeth Lytle, a descendant of the Grigsby family of Junction, contacted our District Librarian, Billie Hoag about making a donation to the NLMS and NLHS libraries in memory and honor of her dear friend, Caleb Thompson. Caleb was born in Harrisburg, PA, March 15, 1996 and recently passed away in November of 2022. Caleb loved to read and remembered quotes flawlessly from the books he read. One of Caleb’s favorite quotes was "With malice toward none with charity for all," from Abraham Lincoln's second inaugural address. This quote truly embodied who Caleb was as a person, son and friend. He was one of the kindest, and smartest people who never bore any ill will toward any soul. He could literally read a book and perfectly quote entire passages from it. He loved all literature, especially Russian literature, history, and philosophy. He was attending the University of Georgia Law School when he passed away. He and Sara attended the Dual BA between SciencesPo and Columbia University together as well as traveled abroad to study. Sara chose New Lexington City Schools to donate classic literature, in his name, because her maternal family, Grisby, was raised in Junction City, OH, and attended New Lexington schools growing up. This donation means that his love for literature and his memory also become a part of her home. Thank you Sara for sharing on behalf of your dear friend, Caleb, and for giving back to your community. We know Caleb will be missed, yet remembered dearly.
