PUTTING A NEW FACE ON FOOTBALL

New Lexington’s venerable football stadium, among the oldest in the area, received an $800,000 renovation by the New Lexington City School District.

Among the improvements were new home and visitors bleachers, new restroom and concession facilities and press box renovation.

Private donations allowed for a new scoreboard, which includes a 42-foot video screen.

Its insignia includes Rockwell’s famous message to his teams: “Those who stay will be champions.”

It will be funded by the district’s permanent improvement fund, and will result in no raise in taxpayer money.

The project, which began at the end of the 2015 season, will be finished in time for the season opener on Sept. 2.
