COLUMBUS - Dimitri Williams secured one objective on Friday morning, an All-Ohio finish.
Williams
took control of his quarterfinal match with a takedown and a near fall
in the first period en route to a 12-4 major decision against Akron St.
Vincent-St. Mary's David Heath in the 170-pound quarterfinals of the
Division II state wrestling meet at Ohio State's Schottenstein Center.
His
victory guaranteed him an All-Ohio finish, the top eight placers in
each weight class. He wrestled his semifinal on Friday night, but no
other area wrestler will reach the podium.
Williams opened his state meet on Thursday with a 15-0 tech fall of Daniel Greiner of Batavia.
"It's the same every match, try to get takedowns early so I
don't have to force them late. The way he was tied up I knew I could get
a couple," Williams said of Heath. "This time year of year, I don't
worry about conditioning, it's all about heart."
In Division II, New Lex junior Justice
Freeman (113) started state with a pin of Sandusky's Leondre
Cooley in 3:30 in his first match on Thursday. However, he was pinned in
2:38 by Conor McCrone of Mentor Lake Catholic in the quarterfinals then
lost an 8-2 decision to West Holmes' Cael Woods to finish 1-2.
