Hi! I’m Ms. Mautz…Your Social Studies Teacher!

Teaching is an absolute passion of mine!  I am so excited to work with you and your child!  It’s going to be a year full of fun, learning, and lots of adventure and I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us!  I thought you might like to know a little bit about me.

My family is the most important thing to me.  I have a son, John, who's 24, and a Shih-tzu named Sparky, who’s 17. When I have some extra free time, I do enjoy traveling (especially on a Carnival cruise ship), going to dinner & a movie, and anything else that I can get into.

I was born and raised in Zanesville and graduated from Philo High School many moons ago (I now consider myself an electrified panther!).  I graduated with my Bachelors Degree from Ohio University and later earned my Masters Degree from Marygrove College.  After graduating from Ohio University, I moved to Houston, Texas to teach 5th grade Science, Math, & Social Studies.  After four years there I decided to come back home and received my job here at New Lexington and I have been here ever since (this is the beginning of my 28th year here & my 32nd year of teaching).

I absolutely love teaching 6th grade!  It is my mission to instill a love for learning in my students.  I attempt to teach with a passion so that my students can develop a desire to become life-long learners.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.   It is so important to keep communication open between us and I would love to talk to you whenever you feel the need.   I look forward to a great year together.

Two Sculptors

I dreamed I saw a studio and watched two sculptors there.  The clay they used was a child’s mind and they fashioned it with care.   One was a teacher – the tools he used were books, music, and art.  The other, a parent, worked with a guiding hand, and a gentle, loving heart.  Day after day, the teacher toiled with a touch that was careful, deft, and sure, while the parent labored by his side and polished and smoothed it o’er.  And when at last, their task was done, they were proud of what they had wrought.  For the things they had molded into the child, could neither be sold nor bought.  And each agreed they would have failed if either had worked alone.  For behind the parent stood the school and behind the teacher, the home.
