Busy summer for local FFA
The New Lexington FFA officer team began the summer by participating in the Junction City and New Lexington Fourth of July parades.
The team received second place for their float at the New Lexington parade. The week of July 18 was the Perry County Fair and many of our members competed with livestock, engineering, and crop projects. The week started out with Coleman Cox winning Reserve Grand Champion Market Turkey on Monday morning.
Later that evening, awards for Best of Show Engineering and Crops were presented to Devin Knecht and Dakota Brame. The evening program was completed by the Perry County Fair King and Queen coronation. Congratulations to Malia Dunn and Dakota Brame for making it on to the court and representing the NL chapter.
Class winners for the Market Swine classes were Callie Fout, Joe Mohler, Cole Gilligan, Gavin Metzger, and Brayden Metzger. Division winners included Gavin Metzger, Joe Mohler, and Cole Gilligan. Congratulations was extended to Gavin Metzger and Cole Gilligan for winning Grand and Reserve Champion Market Hogs.
Brittney Wiseman won the Swine Outstanding Market Exhibitor. Megan Pierce won the Intermediate Buck Show Rabbit class. Hunter Rose won Easy Gaited Pleasure horse class. Members would like to thank all the supporters of the Perry County Jr Livestock Sale for their contribution to the participants. Several of our members also participated at the Ohio State Fair.
July finished off with Claira Fiore and Raven Perry traveling to the nation’s capital for the Washington Leadership conference, where they experienced a variety of leadership opportunities. Members of New Lex FFA are looking forward to a new year beginning this fall and the officer team is working hard to make sure it is a fun and exciting year.
