NLCS District to participate in Energy Conservation Program

The New Lexington City School District in Perry County is one of seven Ohio school districts approved to participate in a program designed to produce a significant energy conservation savings.

The Ohio School Facilities Commission (OSFC) gave its approval at its January 26, 2012 meeting to NLCSD project along with six other school districts across the state. The projects will be completed under the Commission's Energy Conservation program, more commonly known as the H.B. 264 program. The seven districts expect to see a combined annual savings of $960,000 as a result of the planned improvements.

The New Lexington City School District will be installing heating and cooling upgrades in four of its buildings throughout the duration of the project. The district estimates $238,720 annually in energy and operational savings. The District expects to begin realizing these savings in approximately seven years.

Superintendent, Tonya Sherburne said, "This is truly an unique opportunity for our district to take advantage of these state funds to increase energy efficiencies while taking steps to control building operational costs. We are honored to be one of the seven districts selected to receive state funds for this specific project."

OSFC Executive Director Richard Hickman commented, "The H.B. 264 program makes it possible for Ohio school districts to take on projects that reduce their energy consumption. The annual savings generated will allow these seven districts to upgrade their facilities and become more energy efficient. Furthermore, the energy savings will cover the cost of the financing used to fund the projects."
