Maysville shows mettle in extra-inning win

NEWTON TOWNSHIP - The 6 under visitor on the scoreboard was 'brutal.'

Maysville trailed 6-0 after one inning and 7-0 entering the home half of the second against New Lexington on Wednesday.

"New Lex played their butts off, and they pounded the ball," he added. "We've pitched well, but we need consistency, especially on offense."

Despite watching Maysville pull within 7-6 after three innings, New Lex extended the lead to 9-6. Aaron Foreman scored on a passed ball in the fourth, and Trey Givens hit a RBI single in the fifth.

Gage Morgan's RBI single in the sixth put New Lex back in front, 10-9.

However, missed opportunities ultimately cost New Lex.

"We've struggled with runners in scoring position all year," New Lex coach Todd Brown said. "We put too much pressure on ourselves. We're green, and most of our guys haven't been in those situations. Maysville hit the ball well and gave themselves a chance to come back."

Jared Wycinski and Noah Hahn each had two-run singles to highlight the six-run first for New Lex, and Foreman stole home in the second to put New Lex up 7-0.

Foreman fanned nine and allowed nine runs, five earned, on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings for New Lex, while Morgan went 4-for-4, and Brayden Metzger, Givens and Wycinski all had two hits.
