New Lex comes back again

DUNCAN FALLS - There was no quit in New Lexington on Monday.

The Panthers trailed 4-0 after four innings and 6-3 entering the sixth, but they rallied for five runs over the final two frames to pull out an 8-7 win in a Muskingum Valley League game at the Philo Athletic Complex.

Chloe Gilligan broke a 6-6 tie in the seventh with an RBI single, which followed a double from Emily Robinson. Quincee McCord made it 8-6 with a double that scored Rainbow Ratliff, as the first six batters in the inning reached base.

New Lex had a chance to do further damage, but Electrics pitcher Katie Pride wriggled out of a no-out, bases-loaded jam without yielding a run to give her team a chance.

The tying and game-winning runs were stranded on second and third after pop out ended the game.

New Lex (3-2, 2-2) outhit the hosts 13-7 as Robinson clubbed three doubles and McCord two. Gilligan and Layona Davis had two singles.

Bailey Harris went the distance with seven strikeouts to get the win.
