Nineteen members of the New Lexington FFA Chapter and chaperones traveled to the National FFA
Convention in Indianapolis, Ind. During the week of Oct. 17 where that participated in a variety of National CDE contest.
The CDE (Career Development Event) is where the students learn about different industries such as Forestry
and Parliamentary Procedure. The group also had to take part in practicums for their events. The practicums
for forestry included; Timber cruising, map reading, Timber Stand Improvement (TSI), a team activity, and a
general knowledge test.
The practicums for the Parliamentary Procedure were a debate, showing the abilities, opening and closing
ceremonies, and secretary notes. There were also several sessions and the career show.
During the sessions, students heard from experts about different opportunities from the fields of agriculture. At
the career show the students viewed items including; the Case IH Autonomous Tractor. They could also visit
booths from different colleges and learn more about those schools and what they offer. There were many
companies there with fun activities that the students could do, such as a game where participants could see
how fast they could put bolts in the right hole and thread a nut on it the fastest.
NL FFA students who attended the convention were: Rex Howdyshell, Logan Emmert, Dalton Thomas, Jake
Hoover, Brooke Wiseman, Anna Mohler, and Malia Dunn, Natalie Dunn, Luken Hoffman, Alese Finley, Olivia
Holman, Katie Gall, Joseph Mohler, Riley Harris, Izzi Hill, and Carrie Kallaus participated in the Parlimentary
Procedure contest placing 12th in the nation. Clay Weber, Dakota Brame , Brittney Wiseman and Luken
Hoffman placed 14th in the nation in the forestry contest.
